4.18.11 – good things come in threes

over the past couple weeks, i’ve compiled lots of lists of things i want to write about, share, learn about etc. (yes, i know, you’re shocked!) – as i’ve also been super busy at work, trying to plant the garden and take care of the sous chef (who is on crutches at the moment)  my individual creativity has been hard to come by – so, welcome to “good things come in threes” – a (hopefully somewhat regular) way for me to share the things i’m reading, what i’m cooking (or wishing i was cooking) and anything else random that comes to mind.  i hope you enjoy!

1. food for thought

i was a sweet valley girl (along with babysitters club and anything by judy blume) — on my next trip to the bookstore – i will most definitely be picking up the newest installment – their life was so perfect and i’m excited that now that they’re grown there is a little scandal thrown in – only thing that’s a little weird (and granted – i haven’t read them yet) is that they’re 27… 27?  really?

2. kitchen aspirations & inspirations

this week my cooking adventures are all coming off of serious eats – a site i love love love to browse (gawk/stalk?) but must admit, have never tried a recipe from… why take it slowly when you can go gusto and try three!

-for lunch, a modified version of this farro, white and preserved lemon salad

- for dinner one night tonight, this pasta with sweet pea pistou and chevre (it rocked – and will get its own post soon!)

- and as a side (to burgers and roasted fingerling potatoes, these bourbon carrots – yum!

3. random musings

in addition to my love of lists – i love kitchen gadgets and if i actually had room for them, i’d own a lot more than i do (sorry my dear sous chef!) – not only do they make things easier, they’re just fun — in that vein, i loved reading this tidbit from saveur about another collector of gadgets and how well they’ve treated her – for me, my favs are my great-grandmother’s iron skillet and my grandfather’s potato masher – two things my  kitchen will never be without.

happy monday and i hope y’all have a great week!

  1. My husband told me about your blog (found it via fb) and I love it! Your garden looks amazing and so does all the food you make. I love connecting with other Richmond bloggers and look forward to reading along… Have a great week!

    • Thanks! The garden (as well as this blog) are total experiments this year – so hopefully all will go well! Tell your husband I said hello (I just figured out the connection by reading your blog – which is full of awesome information!) – hope y’all are having a great week as well and that you enjoyed your yummy brunch yesterday!
